UNCP Website Redesign and Migration Project

Why Redesign?

UNCP’s website — uncp.edu — is a vital recruitment, fundraising and storytelling platform that serves as a virtual front door to the university. Research consistently shows a university's website is one of the most trusted sources of information for prospective students and their families.

The current website was launched in 2014 and was refreshed in 2019. While innovative at the time, current analytics demonstrate visitors now struggle to navigate our site and frequently can’t find the information they need. Plus, the content management system (CMS) on which the site is built is difficult for campus members to use and challenging to maintain.

Our Goals

University Communications and Marketing is partnering with the web agency iFactory to build a modern, fully accessible website that better reflects our campus community, improves navigation and follows current best practices in web design. The re-envisioned uncp.edu is expected to launch in early 2025 and will provide visitors with a digital experience that conveys the value of a UNCP education in a highly visual and dynamic way.

Key components of this project include:

  • Updates in technology through the introduction of a user-friendly content management system (CMS) built exclusively for higher ed institutions.
  • Content streamlining and the strategic use of photography and videography.
  • A new site structure reflecting best practices and target audience needs based on analytics and user testing.
  • The removal of any sections of the current site (pages, PDFs and downloadable files) meant only for internal university audiences.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO) enhancements to ensure the new website performs well in search results.
  • The creation of a robust web governance model to provide clear guidance for content creation and site updates.
  • Training opportunities for all campus community members responsible for maintaining sections of uncp.edu.

Where We Are Now

An infographic showing the six stages of the website development process. We are currently in the "Development" phase.

Technical Implementation

This is the longest and final phase of the project — it's where the design is integrated into the technology underneath. It's only during this phase where the actual working website begins to materialize and user testing is conducted. We expect to be able to share more information as we get closer to this phase.
