North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High Schools

Applicants from North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High Schools (CIHS) receive special consideration in the admission review for UNC system universities based on North Carolina law. According to House Bill 97 Section 11.16.(a) “any student who graduated from a cooperative innovative high school program with an associate degree and who applies for admission to the constituent institution has the option of being considered for admission as a freshman or as a transfer student.” Download the list of Cooperative Innovative High School Programs by following the link and clicking on the CIHS list to see if your early college high school qualifies.

Applying as an Early College Graduate

1. UNC Pembroke, Early College/North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High School graduates have the option to apply as a first-year freshman or as a transfer student. If you chose to apply as a first-year freshman, admissions decisions are made on the basis of: completing your minimum high school course requirements; overall weighted grade point average and class rank; plus SAT and/or ACT scores. If you choose to apply as a transfer student, admissions decisions are made on the basis of the total number of transferable college credits and overall transfer GPA. Regardless of which option you choose, we ask you to forward us your official high school transcript, official college transcript, and optionally, official ACT/SAT test scores. Note: ACT/SAT scores are not used to make an admission decision for a NC early college graduate with an Associate in Art or Associate in Science degree applying as a transfer student. To ensure your eligibility for housing, merit scholarships and first-year freshman programs, you will be listed as a first-year student with transfer college credit. However, your actual classification will be determined by the total amount of transferable semester hours of credit.
